Sustainable, environmentally conscious business is more important than ever. For the Best Western Hotel Erfurt-Apfelstädt, a responsible use of resources is on the daily agenda to make a significant contribution to the preservation of our planet. Our commitment to sustainability and our regional collaborations not only benefit the environment, but also our guests.

Regionality
The Best Western Hotel cooperates with selected regional suppliers to support the local economy. The baked goods, juices, eggs, and various vegetables are sourced regionally. As a result, transport routes and therefore carbon dioxide emissions are reduced. By working with regional suppliers, the quality of the goods is also ensured.

Resource saving

A conscious, careful, and efficient use of electricity, water and gas resources is an important concern at the Best Western Hotel. As part of renovations, numerous concepts were implemented to reduce the carbon footprint and enable a more responsible use of resources. This sense of responsibility should also be passed on to our guests, who can also make a significant contribution to the environment.

Combined heat and power plant 

To reduce gas consumption, the house's heating system was converted to a combined heat and power plant in 2020. It produces heat and electricity at the same time for heating and hot water preparation, thus saving resources. 

Efficient heating

The radiators in the rooms can be controlled by using smart thermostats on the heaters. This is possible via an energy management software linked to the reservation system. Rooms can be heated efficiently and depending on occupancy via the interface. Appropriate building insulation reduces gas consumption and therefore CO2 emissions.

Energy 
To reduce energy consumption, LEDs are used throughout the hotel. In addition, motion detectors in the hotel corridors ensure energy savings. For the sake of the environment, there are no minibars in the hotel rooms. Our guests are welcome to purchase drinks at the bar or from the refrigerator in the lobby.

Waste
The hotel's breakfast buffet is plastic-free and particularly sustainable thanks to regional products. Individually packaged foods are generally avoided here to reduce waste. There is also a selection for vegetarians and vegans. Large packaging is also used in housekeeping to keep the amount of waste as low as possible.

Water
Guest towels are only changed daily if requested to reduce water consumption.

Sustainable mobility 
Guests arriving by bicycle or planning bicycle tours in the area can lock them free of charge in a bicycle garage at the hotel. There is also a charging station for electric vehicles that is available to guests. Located directly in nature, the hotel is a place to relax and excursions into the surrounding nature and the Thuringian region are a highlight. The Best Western Hotel is the starting point for numerous bicycle tours and hiking routes in the castle region “Drei Gleichen”. Our colleagues are happy to help you planning tours.

Sustainability at Best Western Central Europe 
One tree per booking
When booking a hotel room, guests can make a small contribution to the environment. Together with the company Click A Tree, the BWH Hotel Group Central Europe supports reforestation. For every booking made via the Best Western website, a tree can be planted in the Best Western Forest in Ghana. The campaign secures the habitat for numerous animal species and creates jobs for the local population. Guests pay a small amount of 4,00€ per tree, which goes towards planting and caring for the trees. If requested, guests will be issued with a tree planting certificate.

Best Western For A Better World 
The Better World Fund supports global charity projects and funding programs. Donations will be distributed to initiatives that need the help most. The Better World Fund is managed by an advisory committee and the Best Western Hotels & Resorts Board of Directors. Donations are used to combat poverty, provide disaster relief and provide scholarships. In addition to monetary donations, Best Western Rewards members can also redeem the points they have collected for a good cause.
